PRF Injections in Burlington, CT
Your Body’s Own Power to Heal.
At Elite Smiles, Dr. Ravin offers one of the most exciting advances in regenerative medicine.
PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin, a form of blood plasma with a high concentration of platelets. Platelets contain growth factors, cytokines, and proteins that are involved in normal tissue repair processes.
What IS PRF?
Platelet-rich fibrin is a regenerative concentrate made from a small sample of your own blood. Through a precise centrifugation process, the blood separates into layers — and what emerges is a fibrin matrix packed with platelets, white blood cells, and a rich cocktail of growth factors: VEGF, PDGF, TGF-β, IGF, and more. These are the very proteins your body uses to rebuild damaged tissue, reduce inflammation, and repair injured joints.
When injected into the temporomandibular joint, surrounding tissue, or areas of chronic facial pain, PRF regenerates and restores the structures that pain has damaged. The fibrin scaffold acts as a slow-release depot, delivering growth factors continuously over days to weeks as the healing process unfolds.
- Stimulates natural tissue repair and cartilage regeneration in the TMJ
- Reduces chronic joint inflammation without corticosteroids or synthetic drugs
- Supports collagen synthesis and soft tissue healing in the oral and facial region
- Zero risk of allergic reaction — made entirely from your own blood
- Progressive, cumulative results that improve over weeks to months
- Can reduce or delay the need for surgical intervention in TMJ degeneration
Small Blood Draw
A few milliliters of blood are drawn from your arm — no more than a routine lab test.
Centrifugation
The sample spins at a calibrated speed that separates red blood cells from the platelet-rich upper layers.
PRF Concentrate
The resulting fibrin matrix — rich with platelets and growth factors — is collected. This is your PRF. It's processed and ready within minutes.
Precise Injection
Dr. Ravin injects the PRF concentrate directly into the target area — the TMJ, periarticular tissue, or affected soft tissue.
Who Benefits from PRF Injections?
PRF is particularly powerful for conditions involving joint degeneration, chronic inflammation, and tissue damage that haven’t responded adequately to other treatments.
TMJ Arthritis & Joint Degeneration
When cartilage in the temporomandibular joint deteriorates — from osteoarthritis, overuse, or disc dysfunction — PRF delivers the growth factors needed to slow breakdown, stimulate cartilage repair, and reduce the inflammatory cycle driving daily pain and stiffness.
Chronic TMJ Pain & Disc Displacement
Disc displacement, synovitis, and chronic TMJ pain that hasn't resolved with splints, physical therapy, or anti-inflammatory medications are primary candidates for PRF — targeting the tissue-level cause rather than managing symptoms alone.
Oral & Facial Soft Tissue Healing
PRF accelerates healing of oral mucosa, extraction sites, surgical wounds, and damaged soft tissue — supporting faster, higher-quality tissue regeneration in the oral and facial region by supplying growth factors directly to the healing site.
Chronic Facial Pain & Orofacial Inflammation
Long-standing facial pain with an inflammatory component — including synovitis, capsulitis, and myofascial conditions with a tissue-damage element — responds to PRF's ability to down-regulate inflammation while simultaneously promoting repair.
Nerve Regeneration & Neuropathic Pain
Growth factors in PRF — particularly NGF (nerve growth factor) — support peripheral nerve repair. PRF is emerging as a promising treatment for chronic neuropathic facial pain and nerve injuries associated with dental or jaw trauma.
Post-Surgical & Post-Injection Recovery
PRF can be used following joint injections, oral surgery, or implant placement to dramatically accelerate healing, reduce post-operative inflammation, and improve the quality of tissue that forms during recovery.
Good Candidates for PRF Injections
PRF works best when pain has a tissue-damage or inflammatory joint component — not just muscle tension alone. You may be a strong candidate if:
- You have diagnosed or suspected TMJ arthritis, disc displacement, or synovitis
- Corticosteroid injections or anti-inflammatory medications have provided only temporary relief
- You've been told surgical intervention may be needed and want to explore alternatives first
- You have chronic orofacial pain with an established tissue or joint-damage component
- You're recovering from oral surgery, dental implant placement, or jaw injury and want to accelerate healing
- You're interested in the most natural, drug-free regenerative option available
PRF is not recommended for patients with platelet disorders, active infections at the injection site, or certain blood conditions. Dr. Ravin will review your complete health history before recommending treatment.

We know that trying a new treatment can feel daunting. That’s why we’ve designed every step of your therapeutic experience to be as clear, comfortable, and stress-free as possible.
Consultation & Plan
Dr. Ravin reviews your history, imaging, and goals. He explains exactly what PRF will target, what to expect during and after, and how it fits into your broader care plan.
Blood Draw
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm — comparable to a routine lab test. The sample is placed immediately into a centrifuge for processing.
PRF Preparation
Centrifugation takes approximately 10–12 minutes. The PRF concentrate is collected from the sample — no additives, no waiting, no shipping. It's prepared fresh for you, in-office.
Injection & Recovery
With local anesthetic applied, Dr. Ravin injects the PRF into the target site. Mild soreness is normal for 24–72 hours. You can drive yourself home and resume normal activity the same day.
Your Questions, Answered.
We know you may have questions before trying injections, laser therapy, or both. Here are answers to what we hear most often.
PRF injections are generally associated with minimal discomfort. Because the treatment uses your own platelets, allergic reactions are extremely rare. Numbing creams and local anesthetics may be used to improve comfort during the procedure.
Side effects are generally mild and typically related to the injections themselves. Bruising or swelling may occur in rare cases.
